The Max Schewitz Foundation would like to see more active use of our local forest preserve, and we are considering sponsoring a bike-share program. The bike share stand would be at the entrance to the Middlefork Savanna, adjacent to Elawa Farm in Lake Forest. Here’s how the program would work:
- Bike sharing is the rental use of sturdy bikes for a specific time, typically in half-hour increments.
- Users select a bike from the bike stand and rent the bike using a credit card.
- Funding for the bike program would be from private, not public, funds.
- We hope bikes for adults and children will be available to allow greater use of the 687 acres of the Middlefork Savanna.
As our program progresses, we will provide more updates through our web site and e-newsletter.
